Remote Connections to IIS in Windows 7

Overview¶

Developing a website for mobile devices, I hosted the site within IIS on my Windows 7 development machine. I wanted to give access to this site from another device on the LAN.

Solution¶

The culprit is Windows 7 Firewall. To enable HTTP access through Windows Firewall on Windows 7, execute the following procedure.

Control Panel > Windows Firewall
Left side menu: link for "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall"
Change settings button
Scroll the bottom of the list and enable "World Wide Web Services (HTTP)".
