Overview
Desktop Text is an app I wrote to extract small nuggets of information from specified web pages. It includes the following features.
Bible Verse of the Day and System Tray Icons |
- Shows a Bible verse of the day in the lower-right corner of your screen.
- Shows the current temperature in a system tray icon (near the clock on the Windows Taskbar).
- Temperature icon shows current conditions as a tool tip, and changes colors with the conditions.
- Automatically detects the presence or absence of your proxy server, so it's ideal for use on a laptop.
Using the App
- If you click the system tray icon, a movable window appears around the Bible verse. Clicking the icon again makes the window disappear.
Moving the Bible Verse |
- To see the current conditions, hover over the temperature icon. The tooltip also shows the timestamp for the conditions shown.
Current Weather Conditions |
- Color of the temperature icon changes with weather conditions
- Black is the normal color.
- Red indicates rain.
- Gray indicate cloudy.
- To close the app, right-click the system tray icon and select Exit.
Context Menu |
- If the configured proxy server is available, you will be prompted for the password. When the proxy server is no longer available, the app will attempt to connect directly to the internet. The proxy server information (name, user name and user domain) are specified in the configuration file.
Proxy Server Login Dialog |
- The temperature and Bible Verse are updated every 30 minutes. This interval, as well as the URL and regular expressions used to retrieve the data are specified in the configuration file.
